1. Tincture of iodine -- it is a mixture of iodine and potassium iodide in rectified spirit , it is used as an antiseptic for external injuries
2. chloroform can be synthesized from bleaching powder with ethyl alcohol , the reaction is as follows
CaOCl2 + H2O -----> Ca (OH)2 + Cl2
Cl2 + + CH3CH2OH ---> CH3CHO
CCH3CHO + Cl2 ---> CCl3CHO + HCl
CCl3CHO + Ca(OH)2---> CHCl3 + ( HCOO)2Ca
chloroform can be used as solvent for fats waxes resins etc. , fortified by alcohol it is used as a general anaesthetic , and it is also used in production of refrigerant freon .
3. Antioxidants ----compounds that prevent the reaction between fats and oxygen are called antioxidants , the common antioxidants are butylated hydroxy toluene , butylated hydroxy anisole , lectithin, citric acid , vitamin E etc.they are used in packaging of processed food to preserve them and prevent the from becoming rancid due to oxidation .
