Environmental Geography

This is the branch of Geography that majorly deals with the study of the earths components such as; the earths atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere, with the aim of solving environmental problems/issues that we face. such problems include;

  1. Environmental Pollution
  2. Waste management and disposal
  3. Over-exploited earth natural resource
  4. Natural disasters etc.

Environmental studies is a major field of study of its own, what environmental geography does is to show the effects of man on the environment and the ecosystem.

  • How the over-exploitation of natural resources which is human activity, affects the the environment.

  • Effects of man on the ecosystem, such as; deforestation, killing of plants and animal species, man’s action o the natural foodchain etc.

  • Effects of industrialization on some natural habitat of plants and animal.

Environmental Geography can be branched into two sub-fields which are Pure and Applied.

  • Pure Environmental Geography: This is the part of environmental studies that deeply study, acquires and gathers knowledge on a particular issue or some issues facing the environment and how this problems can be solved.

  • Applied Environmental Geography: This is the use of sophisticated technology in dealing and solving problems that affects the environment.
