The techniques of craft production, especially bead making at the Harappan sites of Lothal and Chanhudaro were :

• Different kind of material were used to make beads. Some were crystal, quartz and steatite, carnelian, metals like copper, bronze and gold.

•They would mould beads in various shapes like cylindrical, spherical or cubical

• For different material, different techniques were used to make beads

• Some beads were made out of a paste made with steatite powder which they obtained from very soft stone.

• First step was to chiselled the nodules and knots into rough shapes.

• Then they were flaked and chipped into the final form at the finishing stages.

• At last grinding, polishing and drilling would give the final look of bead.
