⠀ ⠀☆ Biogas Plant

Definition

  • A biogas plant is where biogas is produced by fermenting biomass.

Structure

1. It consists of a mixing tank where a slurry of animal dung is prepared by mixing it with water.

2. The slurry is fed into the digester. The digester is a sealed chamber in which there is no oxygen. Anaerobic decomposition of bio-mass takes place in the digester. The biogas so produced collects in the dome from which it is drawn through pipes for use.

3. As biogas keeps collecting in the dome, it exerts pressure on the slurry in the digester tank. This pressure forces the spent slurry to flow into the overflow tank.

4. The spent slurry is gradually removed and is used as a manure.

5. To get a continuous supply of biogas, fresh slurry is added periodically.
