A functional group, in organic chemistry, is a group of similarly structured carbon chain molecules that tend to behave in a similar way. ..
As requested, six examples have been provided, along with a short description.
=>Alkanes: saturated hydrocarbon; only C and H, all single bonds.
=>Alcohols : any hydrocarbon that has “ ~ OH” substituent.
=>Aldehydes: one of the carbon atoms on the end of the chain has a double bond to an oxygen atom.
=>Ketones: one of the carbon atoms that is not at the end of the chain has a double bond to oxygen
=>Alkenes: a hydrocarbon with a double bond
=>Alkynes: a hydrocarbon with a triple bond
