Lest count is the smallest measurement that can be taken accurately.

L.S. of Vernier =Value of one main scale /Total number of division on Vernier scale.

L.S. of screw gauge =Pitch/Total number of division on screw gauge.

The smallest value that can be measured by the measuring instrument is called its least countMeasured values are good only up to this value. The least counterror is the error associated with the resolution of the instrument.
