Answer:-

Energy: The capability of a particle to do work is called energy (possessed by it).

Kinetic energy: The energy possessed by a particle due to the virtue of its motion is known as kinetic energy.

It is given by,

 \boxed{\sf KE = \dfrac{1}{2} mv^2 }

Potential energy: The emergency possessed by a particle due to the virtue of its position if configuration is known as potential energy.

It has two main categories namely,

  • Gravitational Potential Energy, and
  • Elastic Potential Energy.

Gravitation potential energy is given by \boxed{\sf{ mgh }} and the second one by, \boxed{\sf \dfrac{1}{2} kx^2} , where,

(Erstwhile,)

  • m = mass,
  • g = acceleration due to gravity, and
  • h = height.

(Second,)

  • k = Spring constant,
  • x = Displacement occurred.

 \underline{\sf{Know \ more :-}}

  • Work done is a scalar quantity.
  • It is given by \boxed{ \sf FS \ cos \theta } where F = force, S = Displacement and  \theta = angle between force and displacement.
  • For a variable force,

 \boxed{\sf{W = \int \vec{F} • \vec{ds}}} .

- Energy can be defined as the ability to do work.

- The amount of energy possessed by a body is equal to the amount of work it do when its energy is released.

- Energy is a scalar qauntity.

- The SI unit of energy is Joule.

- The energy required to do 1 joule of work is called 1 joule energy

1. Kinetic energy = In physics, the kinetic energy of an object is the energy that it possesses due to its motion. It is defined as the work needed to accelerate a body of a given mass from rest to its stated velocity. Having gained this energy during its acceleration, the body maintains this kinetic energy unless its speed changes.

2. potential Energy = Potential energy is energy that is stored – or conserved - in an object or substance. This stored energy is based on the position, arrangement or state of the object or substance. You can think of it as energy that has the 'potential' to do work.
