Explanation:
Substances which react chemically in a reaction to give new substances are called reactants. The new substances formed are called the products. The products do not retain the properties of the reactants as they have lost the m during the chemical reaction.
Eg.When two hydrogen atoms react with two chlorine atoms(reactants),they give a completely new compound (product), hydrochloric acid(two molecules).
h2+cl2>2hcl
When two sodium atoms react with two chlorine atoms(reactants),they give a completely new compound (product),sodium chloride (two atoms).
2na+cl2>2nacl

The substance(s) to the left of the arrow in a chemical equation are called reactants. A reactant is a substance that is present at the start of a chemical reaction. The substance(s) to the right of the arrow are called products . A product is a substance that is present at the end of a chemical reaction.
Eg. When two hydrogen atoms react with two chlorine atoms(reactants),they give a completely new compound (product), hydrochloric acid(two molecules). h2+cl2>2hcl. When two sodium atoms react with two chlorine atoms(reactants),they give a completely new compound (product),sodium chloride (two atoms). 2na+cl2>2nacl.
