Substances which react chemically in a reaction to give new substances are called reactants. The new substances formed are called the products. The products do not retain the properties of the reactants as they have lost the m during the chemical reaction.
Eg.When two hydrogen atoms react with two chlorine atoms(reactants),they give a completely new compound (product), hydrochloric acid(two molecules).
h2+cl2>2hcl
When two sodium atoms react with two chlorine atoms(reactants),they give a completely new compound (product),sodium chloride (two atoms).
2na+cl2>2nacl

Which undergoes reaction is called reactant...And which results at the end of reaction is called product...for eg:c+o2______co2,here c and o are reactants, where as co2 is product
