greetings.

to answer your question,

when the southwest monsoon enters India,it is known as the season of advancing monsoon.

but soon as the temperature in the northern part of India rises,a low pressure trough is created which is no longer strong enough for the south west monsoon.

As a result,the monsoon starts leaving or retreating.

Hence it is know as season of retreating monsoon.

When monsoons came from Arabian sea rains on Western ghats and in northern plains then they got empty and take water from bay of Bengal and rains on eastern ghats . These monsoons are called retreating monsoons
