Explain the term reverberation of sound

The persistence of a sound in a big hall due to repeated reflections from walls , ceiling and the floor of the wall is known as reverberation of sound . Reverberation can be reduced by covering walls and roofs of the hall by absorbing materials.

If the reflector is at a distance less than 17m,the original sound mixes up with the reflected sound.Due to repeated reflections at the reflecting surface,the sound gets prolonged.
This effect is called Reverberation of sound.
