Explanation:

sonar

sound navigation and ranging(sonar)

sonar is an instrument that uses the concept of echo(or reflection of sound) to measure the depth of the oceans. This instrument produces and transmits high frequency (ultrasonic) sound waves towards the seabed . After striking the seabed these waves are reflected back upward and received .The times elapsed between transmitting and receiving these waves is recorded.Using the speed of sound in sea water as 1560m/s at 20deegree celcius, and the elapsed time, the depth of the seabed can easily calculated.

Answer:

Sonar (sound navigation ranging) is a technique that uses sound propagation (usually underwater, as in submarine navigation) to navigate, communicate with or detect objects on or under the surface of the water, such as other vessels.

Sonar may be used as a means of acoustic location and of measurement of the echo characteristics of "targets" in the water.

hope it helps you.
