A wasteland is an area of land on which not much can grow or which has been spoiled in some way. Pollution is a major cause for wasteland formation. Areas that are damaged by waterlogging, ravine, gully erosion, riverine lands, salinity, and alkalinity, shifting and sand dunes, wind erosion, extreme moisture deficiency, overexploitation of natural resource, a dump of industrial and sewage wastes, soil erosion, deforestation are also causes of wasteland. They are barren or uncultivable land. Sometimes they are devastated and inhabitable as well. These land can be brought under cultivation after improving it through reclamation practices.
