All the Matter is made up of atoms.

\underline\textbf{ATOM:}
• An Atom is the smallest particle of ordinary matter that takes part in a Chemical Reaction.

• It is made up of Sub-atomic Particles, which are :
- Protons
- Neutrons and
- Electrons.

- Atoms of most of the elements are reactive and doesn't exist in free state. They exist in combination of same element or different element.

- Atom size is indicated by it's radius, which is called Atomic radius .

- Hydrogen is the smallest atom of all

\underline\textbf{MOLECULE:}
• A Molecule is a combination of Atoms.

- Molecule is the Smallest particle in a substance and can exist in free state.

• There are two types of Molecules:
- Molecule of Elements
- Molecule of Compunds

• Molecule of Element is entirely made of one type of atom.
Eg: A Molecule of Hydrogen element, which is H_{2} consists of 2 Hydrogen atoms combined together (only Hydrogen atoms)

- No. of atoms present in a Molecule of an Element is called as Atomicity.

Atomicity of H_{2} is two.
i.e., H_{2} is diatomic.

• Molecule of Compound consists two or more atoms (or) elements chemically joined together.
Eg: Water (H_{2}O)
Combined Elements are Hydrogen and Oxygen. (Ratio by Mass is 1:8)

Answer:

atom:

the smallest particle of ordinary matter that takes part in a chemical reaction is called atom.

example:

Neon (Ne)

Hydrogen (H)

Argon (Ar)

Iron (Fe)

Calcium (Ca)

molecule:

the smallest particle in a substance that can exist in free state is called molecule.

Example:

H2O (water)

N2 (nitrogen)

O3 (ozone)

CaO (calcium oxide)

C6H12O6 (glucose, a type of sugar)

NaCl (table salt)
