Displacement reaction is a chemical reaction in which a more reactive element displaces a less reactive element from its compound. Both metals and non-metals take part in displacement reactions. Example : Reaction of iron nails with copper sulphate solution.

◆ Displacement reaction -
- Reaction in which one element displaces another element from its compound is called displacement reaction.
- Usually a highly reactive element displaces a less reactive element in the reaction.
● For example -
When copper sulphate is allowed to react with iron, copper is displaced by iron to form ferrous sulphate and copper.
CuSO4 + Fe --> FeSO4 + Cu
