In the test tube with 2 ml of Benedict's reagent, add 5-6 drops of the test carbohydrate solution and mix well. Place the test tube in a boiling water bath for 5 minutes and observe any change in color or precipitate formation.

  • Iodine test

since these tests has so long procedure , I will explain one of the test among these ; the commonly done test , the Benedict test .

Explanation:

This test is given by reducing sugars. in alkaline medium, sodium carbonate converts glucose to enediol and this enediol reduce cupric to cuprous forming cuprous hydroxide.( enediol is catechol or ortho - hydroxy phenol) This solution is kept in sodium citrate and on boiling red precipitate of cuprous oxide is formed.
