The works of the 18th century are not able to cherish the taste of the readers which was mostly about the Indians who were regarded as inadequate, divided and helpless during the British period. Moreover, the modern Indian intellectuals were also not impressed by the puranic stories and tales of demons and supernatural beings.
Bhudev Mukhopadhyay Anguriya Binimoy (1857) was the first traditional fiction in Bengal. The theme of this novel portrays the story of the hero Shivaji who engages in many of the battles against unfaithful and diplomatic Aurangzeb. The courageous travails of Shivaji was embraced by the moden intellectuals. The novel was so influential which motivated, many Indian political campaigns.
