Answer:

This is a poem of ideas. The poet i.e Roald Dahl conveys his concern on how excessive watching of TV can harm the children, their thought process, their imaginative faculty and their realization of real joy.

The poet believes that children should be kept away from television sets because that ‘idiotic box’ can kill their imagination and make them dull. They are deprived of outdoor sports and also of reading. The poet’s suggestion is to replace the television set by a bookshelf filled with good books on various subjects. He also believes that the children, though would show their hostility at the beginning, will finally enjoy reading the books where they will find real joy.
