According to the theory of plate tec tonics the crust of the earth has been formed out of 7 major and some minor plates.the movement of plates results in the building up of stresses and continental rocks above, leading to folding, faulting and volcanic activities.

(i) convergent boundary : when plates come towards each other also called the folding moment .

(ii)divergent boundary :when plates move away from each other also called faulting movement.

(ii) transform boundary :in the event of coming together they may colloid or a side under each other
