The best known system is the FrenchAncien Régime (Old Regime), a three-estatesystem used until the French Revolution(1789–1799). Monarchy was for the king and the queen and this system was made up of clergy (the First Estate), nobles (the Second Estate), and peasants and bourgeoisie (the Third Estate).

The French government was an absolute monarchy. France was divided into three classes, called Estates.

The first estate was made up of the Clergy.

The second estate was made up of the Nobility.

The third estate was made up of the Common people.
