a solvent is a liquid that dissolves a solid liquid and gaseous solute .
a solute is a substance dissolves in another substance .....water is the solvent and the salt is the solute and together they make a salt (saline )
which is called solution.

In simple way we can define them as:

In a binary solution,the component which is present in small amount is called the solute and
The medium in which it is dissolved or while the component which is present in large amount is called the solvent.
A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more component mixed uniformly throughout the bulk of the mixture.
