The messages carried by neurons are called nerve impulses. Nerve impulses can travel very quickly because they are electrical impulses.

Think about flipping on a light switch when you enter a room. When you flip the switch, the electricity flows to the light through wires inside the walls. The electricity may have to travel many meters to reach the light, but the light still comes on as soon as you flip the switch. Nerve impulses travel just as fast through the network of nerves inside the body

The nerve impulses are first detected by the receptors than from the receptors they passes through the nerve cells or neurons. This information is thus acquired at the end of the dendritices tip of neurones and than converting into an electric impulses it passes on to the axon. At the nerve ending this impulses are carried on. On reaching to the synapse these are converted into chemicals than these chemicals passes the gap and again start the nerve impulse from dendritp and so on the same process continues until they reach the spinal cord or brain.
