There is no particular trend for Oxidation state in Periodic Table.

You can find oxidation state only by Electronic configuration and their stability at particular state.

If someone tells you any trend of oxidation state, trust me don't bother on it. there is no trend in real.

Oxidation state across periodic table:

  • The oxidation state is number of electrons gained or lost to attain stable electronic configuration.
  • The oxidation state does not change within the group because all the elements within the group have same valency.
  • On moving from left to right across the periodic table, on considering the periods, the oxidation increases from 1 to 4 and then reduces from 4 to 0.
  • The elements in s-block and p-block have one oxidation state whereas the elements in d-block and f-block have more than one oxidation state.
  • Thus, valence electron and oxidation state are one in main properties on arranging the elements in periodic table.
