Two points which shaped Indian politics towards the late 1920s are as follows:-
1. The depression in trade and agriculture had adverse effects on Indian farmers.
2.Exports fell and the incomes of the people engaged in agriculture declined.
3. By 1926 rural India was in turmoil.
4. The new Tory government in Britain had created a Statutory Commission headed by Sir. John Simon to look into the working of the constitutional system in India.
5 . However, there was a problem. This Commission had no Indian member. So, it was boycotted by Indians and when this Commission arrived in October 1928, it was greeted by slogans like "Go Back Simon".
