Explain the unification of Germany Who, how, when impact
Answers
The new German state was immediately the most powerful country in Europe-and was to become even more powerful once it fully industrialized. As long as Bismarck ran the show, the situation wasn’t really dangerous.Bismarck was a skilled diplomat who regarded his creation (Second Reich) as a satiated power. And he wasn’t particularly interested in making Germany a global power.
After his dismissal in 1890,things started going downhill fast. The new ruler ,William 2,was an unstable man. Also an ultra-nationalist.Under him,the Second Reich began throwing its weight around-and not just in Europe.William wanted to make his country a world power-and began building a huge navy for that very purpose. The end result of his (William’s) irresponsible behaviour was WW1.The kaiser wasn’t totally responsible for that catastrophe but his policies certainly played an important part.
