hi mate here is ur answer

hydrogen shows both alkali metals as well as the halogens (x)  properties and it can loose electron in order to  get the alkali metals properties whereas it can gain one electron in order to gain the properties of halogens

it acts like both electron donor and electron acceptor

thus it is placed on the top of alkali metals
