Vegetative propagation is an asexual method of plant reproduction that occurs in its leaves, roots and stem. This can occur through fragmentation and regeneration of specific vegetative parts of plants. The major methods of asexual propagation are cuttings, layering, division, budding and grafting. Cuttings involve rooting a severed piece of the parent plant; layering involves rooting a part of the parent and then severing it; and budding and grafting is joining two plant parts from different varieties. The three types are referred to as macro propagation, as alternative to micropropagation or tissue culture.

Three common aspects of vegetative propagation are as follows:

cutting

  • Cutting is the process of removing a small piece of a plant by using a sharp knife to make a cut.
  • Grapes, bananas, cactus, and other fruits and vegetables are examples.

layers :

  • Using this process, a leaf branch is taken from the plant and the tip of the branch is exposed outside.
  • As the parent plant grows into the soil, the stem gets cut off.
  • Jasmine, raspberry, strawberry, and so on, for example.

grafting.

  • It's a method of combining the cut stems of two different plants to form a single plant.
  • A sliced stem containing roots is referred to as *STOCK*.
  • A plant's cut stem that is devoid of roots is referred to as a *SCION*.
  • An apple tree, a peach tree, a pear tree, and so on are examples of fruit trees.
