SOLUTION :

The various steps involved in the process of control are as follows :

(1). Establishment of standards :

Standards represent desired performance to be achieved. They state clearly as to what must be achieved during a specific period. To be useful standards must be set in a quantitative terms but this may be qualitative terms.

Quantitative standards : Number of units to be produced, units to be sold , %profit to be achieved etc.

Qualitative standards : Improving Goodwill, improving employees morale, holding weekly meetings etc.

(2). Measurement of performance :

The next step after setting the standards performance is  to measure the actual performance. Measurements of Actual Performance of an employee is conducted by the managers. Performance can be measured by the following methods such as  sample checking , personal observation , preparing reports etc.

(3). Comparison of actual performance with the standard :

Comparison of actual performance with the standard is undertaken to find out extent of deviations. This comparison tells us the difference between actual and desired results.

(4). Analysing deviations :

After comparing actual performance with the standard nextstep is to analyse the deviations. Deviations in the important areas need immediate attention and for this a principle concerning to ‘critical point control’ is referred and where the deviations are insignificant principles concerning to ‘Management by exception’ may be referred.

(5). Taking corrective action :

Taking Corrective action is the final step in the process of controlling. These actions are required are required to prevent the repetition of deviations.

For example : some corrective actions are : change the quality specification of materials, repair replacement of machinery, modifying the existing process, improve the physical condition of work.
