Literary sources

• Religious literature - The religious literature in India is so vast. It includes Vedas, Upanishads. The great epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata and the puranas of Hindus.
• Secular literature - secular literature means non-religious literature. they includes code of duties are admistrators, kings and people.

• Accounts of foreigners - Before independence many foreigners visited India. Ancient Greek and Roman historians also wrote about India from their knowledge .All these foreign accounts proved useful for writing history.
