They gives us an idea of social, economic and political life of that time. Temples are rich source of religious and cultural history. Paintings are also important sources that tells us about the food, customs and dress and jewellery of the people of ancient times. Coins are a rich source of information as they gives us dates of important political events. Inscriptions of south India recorded the gifts given to temples and learned man.
