There are two types of literary sources in Indian History.

They are: Native and Foreign sources

Native Sources: Native sources can be defined as the sources which by native people but not by foreigners.

Native sources are again divided as Religious and Not religious.

Religious: The religious sources are mainly of Puranas and epics. These Puranas helps in reconstructing History.

Example: Ramayana, Mahabharata etc.

Not Religious: These were written by the native poets and writers. These sources give us information about the History of India.

Example: Prithviraj Charita, Harsha Charita etc.

Foreign Sources: These sources were written by Foreign visitors or poets in medieval India. These sources gave us the exact History of India because these were written by Foreigners.

Example: Indica by Megasthenes, Akbar Nama by Abul Fazl etc.

Indian history is having 2 sources of Literary sources.

These are - Native Sources and Foreign Sources.

Native Sources are those sources which fully belong to our country and they were being composed by indians only.

Example - The Ramayana, The Mahabharata , The Upanishads , The Vedas etc.

Foreign Sourced are those who are related to India but they were composed by Foreigners.

Example - Akbar Nama, Indica, etc.

These were written by foreigner ambassadors or pilgrims.
