What is Vertical Division of Power Sharing ?

It is also Known as Federalism . It is the Sharing of Power among Govt. at different level . In this System power is divided between a Central authority and various Constituent unit of the Country . Also , In this System both the Central Govt. and non-central govt. are answerable to Citizens of the Country. Who elect them . Usually the power is divided among two or more levels of govt. In this System of power sharing Central Govt. , State govt. and local govt. enjoy the power independent of the other .

Why it is So important ?

In this System the Central Govt. is responsible for the subject of Common interest and the State Govt. look after day to day functioning of the State. It is better from Unitary Govt. It Safeguard and promote the unity of the country .

It is accommodate regional diversity .

Features of Federalism or We can say the Vertical division of Power

  1. There are two or more tiers of Govt.
  2. Each tier has its own jurisdiction in Specific matters of legislation , taxation and administration .
  3. Authority of each tier of government is constitutionally guaranteed .
  4. For Changing Fundamental Provisions of the Constitution it requires the Consent of both the levels of Govt
  5. Courts have the power to interpret the constitution and the power of different levels of Govt.
  6. Source of Revenue for each level of Govt. are specified to ensure its financial autonomy .
