There are two ways.
One in complete abscence of O2 which produces alcohol the process is also called Fermentation.
And 2nd is in a low amount of oxygen which produces lactic acid (major cause of crambs in muscles)

In the absence of oxygen When breakdown of glucose is carried out in the absence of oxygen in a cell, it is called as anaerobic respiration. This process is called as fermentation in microbes. Ethyl alcohol or lactic acid is produced by the breakdown of pyruvate.
