Answer: The leaders of Germany and Japan reacted to hardships by threatening other countries and trying to expand their power. The League of Nations could do nothing to stop them. Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931 and seized it from Chinese control. The League

of Nations criticized Japan's actions, but Japan ignored this and left

the League. When Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazis, became Chancellor

of Germany in 1933, he began to take action against the restrictions of

the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler's first step was to rearm Germany, but the League of Nations took no action to stop him. The Depression had severely weakened Britain's and France's economies, and their people

don't want to go on war again.
