Required Answer:

Principle of electric motor: A current carrying conductor when placed inside magnetic field, experiences some force. If the magnetic field lines and direction of current are mutually perpendicular to each other then force acting on the conductor will be maximum. The direction of force is given by Fleming's left hand rule. Due to this force the conductor begins to move and will further help in mechanical works.

Working of motor: In an electric motor, there is a coil let consider ABCD, where current is entering from arm AB and passing through CD. This coil is placed inside magnetic field lines. There will be some force acting on the coil as we have discussed above. The force acting on both the arms AB and CD are opposite in direction. That causes revolution of coil. There are split rings connected to the ends of the coil. In the given attachment see X and Y are split rings. The main function of split ring is to reverse the direction of current after every half rotation. The direction of current through arm AB and CD will be reversed as soon as both the arm exchanges their position. This causes continuous rotation of coil. The brushes are connected to the split rings and connect the split rings to the circuit wire. It has a battery which is the source of potential and provides supply to the whole circuit.

That's all about motor!

SI unit of magnetic field is Tesla and magnetic field is represented by B.
