Photocells are devices that transfer light energy directly into electrical energy. They produce DC - direct current - electricity. This is electricity in which the current moves in the same direction all the time. Photocells have no moving parts, and can workin remote locations.
1. 
Photocells have myriad uses, especially as switches and sensors.
2. 
Photocells may be used in the place of variable resistors and photovoltaic          cells.
