Answer:
hey mate here is your answer
Explanation:
we use split rings in an electric motor.
suppose it has a coil ABCD, and current enters the coil ABCD from the source battery through carbon brush X and leaves through brush Y. in arm AB current flows from A to B and in arm CD it flows from C to D. by flemming's left hand rule, the force on AB would be inward and outward on arm CD. thus the coil or armature will rotate in west to east direction(anticlockwise). after half rotation split rings will change the direction of current and thus in arm CD current will flow from D to C and in arm AB it will flow from B to A. thus force on CD will be inward and on AB it will be outward, thus ABCD will complete one rotation. this process will continue.
we use slip rings in electric generator.
coil ABCD is in horizontal position. it s rotated b/w the poles of a magnert. due to this, AB moves inward and CD moves outward. the magnetic field lines change and an electric current is induced in AB and CD, in AB it flows from B to A and in CD it flows D to C. after half a rotation, the slip rings will maintain the direction of current but the arms will change their position. then in AB it will flow from A to B and in CD it will flow from C to D. thus the coil will complete its rotation.
