★ A device which converts the mechanical energy into electric energy is called dynamo. However if it produce a fairly large amount of power , it is called a generator.

It is based on the principal that whenever the magnetic flux passing through a closed circuit coil changes then an emf is induced in it, with the result that a current flows in it .

A coil is rotatad in a magnetic field in a generator . The magnetic flux is linked with the coil changes due to rotation and thus an emf is induced between the ends of the coil.
