An artificial kidney contains a number of tubes of semi premeable lining suspended in a tank filled with dialysing fluid. The fluid has the same osmotic pressure as blood but it is a devoid of nitrogeneous waste.The patients blood is passed throgh this fluid and the waste products from the blood like urea and uric acid diffuses into the fluid by diffusion.The purified blood is pumped back into the patient.
It is almost the same as the working of the kidney but i t is different as there is re-absorbtion involved
