A biogas plant consists of the following parts :

  • Mixing tank : It is present above the ground where the cow dung is mixed with water.
  • Inlet chamber : It connects the mixing tank with the digester tank.
  • Digester : It is a sealed underground chamber covered with dome like ceiling.
  • Over flow tank : Spent slurry is removed from here.

The working of the biogas plant is as follows :

  1. The cow dung and water is mixed in the mixing tank.
  2. The mixture reaches the underground digester tank through the inlet chamber.
  3. After, 50 to 60 days, biogas is produced by the action of anaerobic bacteria.
  4. The produce biogas is collected inside the dome built over the digester tank.
  5. At last, the slurry is removed through the outlet chamber.
