By the working of the motor we knew that if current flows in a armature between the magnetic field then the armature experiences a force which helps to convert it to electrical energy into mechanical energy. But the generator is based on the electromagnetic induction. That is when a coil Moves in a magnetic field and cuts the magnetic field lines then there is a current induced in it. On DC generator as the coil rotates in the magnetic field, due to cutting of magnetic fields, current is induced in the coil which moves through the split rings of the device to the carbon brushes where they can be directly connected to the circuits. *note the DC generator has split rings and AC generator has slip rings . Hope this was useful for u.

Working of DC generator:

1) The principle and working of D.C generator is same as that of AC generator except that in place of slip - rings as sliding contacts, we have a slip-ring or a commutator.

2) In a slip ring there are two half rings.

3) The ends of armature coil are connected to these rings and these rings rotate the armature.

4) By using slip-ring, the direction of induced current does not change in the external circuit throughout the complete rotation of the armature. In other words, the current in the external circuit always flows in the same

direction. Hence the induced current is unidirectional.
