The working principle of DC generator is Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction.

Working of DC generator

When a conductor placed in varying magnetic field or the conductor moved/ rotated in magnetic field then it induces a electromotive force (EMF) in to the conductor.

In DC generator there are two coils (i) Field coils

(ii) Armature coils

(i) Field coils : These coils are fixed and they produce electromagnetic fields.

(ii) Armature coils : these are the coils which are rotated in the electromagnetic field and emf is produced in these coils.

Armature coils are provided with closed path to circulate the induced current and the direction of induced current is determined by Fleming's right hand rule.
