The pictures are set in series with a speed of 24 images per second.
Due the persistence of our eyes, the image remains in our eyes 1 /16 seconds even after removal of picture.
So,
Pictures are appeared to be moving.

Motion picture, is a series of still photographs on film, projected in rapid succession onto a screen by means of light. because of the optical phenomenon known as persistence of vision*, this gives the illusion of actual, smooth, and continuous movement
*persistence of vision is the retention of a visual image for a short period of time after the removal of the cause that produced it. this phenomenon produces the illusion of movement when viewing motion pictures
