In this traditional method of irrigation, water is drawn out of wells by animals. Animals like cow, buffalo, oxen etc. are connected to wheel. Animals move and rotate the wheel lead to draw the water from the well.

The Rahat system works by making cattle move a lever in a rotating manner. This lever is connected to many gears and is used to turn a turbine which picks up water from a stream.
