A simple voltaic cell is made by immersing one zinc plate and one copper plate inside a dilute sulfuric acid solution. As shown in the figure, if the copper plate and zinc plate are connected externally to the solution by a conductor, a current starts flowing from copper plate to zinc plate through the conductor. That means there is some electrical potential difference that gets developed between the copper plate and zinc plate and as the current flows from copper to zinc, it is obvious that the copper plate becomes positively charged and zinc plate becomes negatively charged.

Electrical current is the movement of charged particles, either electrons or ions, through a conductor. A voltaic cell is an electrochemical cell that uses a chemical reaction to produce electrical energy. The oxidation and reduction reactions are separated into compartments called half-cells.
