Explanation:
Crustal plates float like rafts on the mantle. Extreme heat, more so in the lower layers of the mantle cause magma to rise (because hot air rises), impact on the plate and return to the depths in a circulatory movement. Moving magma caused by the transfer of heat is referred to as a convection current. The plates are pushed by the convection currents as they impact on the plate before subsiding, causing them to move in the direction of the strongest currents.
