EXPLAIN THIS PLZZZ .......

IN EASY WAY

Most of these transition elements show variable valencies or oxidation states .This is due to fact that in addition to the outermost "s" electrons , transition elemants use (n _ 1 )d electron, ((n_1)d and 'ns' electrons of comparable energy) in bond formation . So varying number of electrons can take part in bond formation leading to variable valencies .

in transition elements elements are first filled in ns orbital Then (N-1) d orbital. As ns orbital contains maximum of 2 electrons therefore making valence shell electrons same rest electrons are filled in (n-1) d orbitals leading to different electrons of every transition which results in different bond formation

Anonymous: what is n_1 d orbital?
