                                               mass of the compound) × 100

ethyne :  H--C ≡ C --H

(∵ mass of carbon=12 , mass of hydrogen= 1)

mass of ethyne = (12 × 2) + ( 1 × 2 )

                         = 24 + 2 = 26

mass of carbon in ethyne= 12 × 2 = 26

% of carbon= (24/26) × 100

                   = 92.3 %
