first of all km is changed into m by multiplying 1 km by 1000m because 1km=1000m
in second step
1 kilometre per hour =
0.278 metre per second
so 18 kmph is converted into m/s
then we'll apply the formula and put the values in it and change the answer in minutes
in second step
1 kilometre per hour =
0.278 metre per second
so 18 kmph is converted into m/s
then we'll apply the formula and put the values in it and change the answer in minutes

I think you haven't got the step at conversion of kmph to mps
1 km per hour = 5/18 m per second .
In the question, speed is given and distance is given.
Time has to be found out.
we have formula,
Speed = distance * time
=> time = Speed/Distance
Given, Speed = 18 kmph = 18*(5/18) = 5 mps
and Distance = 1000 m
Now substitute the values to get final answer 200 sec
60 sec = 1 min
200 sec= ?min (say it as x)
Cross multiply
x= (200/60)= 3.(something) minutes
{Just find quotient.}
Now as the quotient is 3
Multiply it by 60,to convert to seconds
60*3= 180 sec
Subtract this from previous
200 - 180 = 20 seconds
so 200 = 3 minutes 20 seconds
Just Remember these:
1 min = 60 seconds
1 kmph = (5/18) mps
;)
Hope it helps..
