number is preferred over the smaller number locant.​

You have to check alphabetics too...

If there are no functional groups in the given chain... follow this a) Lowest locant rule.. means the substitution if u are counting it from 2 different sides left to right and viceversa ,, the substitution should get lowest position.. in dat direction u hav to give numbering..

if locants are same then go for b) lowest sum rule,, add all the locants... which will get lowest sum follow that order...

if it is also same then check c) alphabetic order.. which has lowest alphabet give it more preference

Here we give preference more to a than b than c
